I’m an introvert. I can spend a day alone, with myself, having a ball inside of my own head. I still really do love meeting new people, but I am generally too shy to insert myself or introduce myself to someone. Style, for me, has actually led to many conversations with strangers and long-term friendships; my wardrobe has been able to do some heavy lifting when it comes to expanding my circle.
A few nights ago, I was having dinner alone at a wine bar in Milan wearing this coated Jil Sander skirt and the matching coat. An Italian guy said something about “Peggy Gu” and I looked up as I love her (I guess she was DJing that night). He struck up a conversation with me and eventually invited me to sit with he and his colleagues who are now my new neighborhood friends - shoutout LM Enoteca which is also my new neighborhood wine bar when in Milano!
Luke and Lucie Meier’s Jil Sander has been, for me, the ultimate wardrobe for introverts. Poetic and elegant, yet not too serious or reserved in its expression. There are subtleties in the gestures of the garments, like extra long sleeves that reveal just a glimpse of a hand, or embellishments that ring or whisper when you walk. I’ve had countless folks over the years approach me to ask what I’m wearing and have also built a community of (also introverted) friends around our shared love for the Meiers’ work. Shoutout Jae Jun and Paul!!
There’s a new era at Jil, but I’ll forever treasure what I’ve collection over the years. Thankfully Yoox still has a real bounty of what I suppose we’ll now call “Old Jil”. Below, I’m sharing some of my favorite pieces and links to them at these outlet sites!
I am OBSESSED with these pants. They’re super chic, even for steamy summer dressing. I lived in them this past summer.
I’m crazy about the shape of these boots - mine are due for a repair as I wore them to pieces last FW.
These mules are so special and are surprisingly comfortable. The price is still a bit high, so I would add to my wishlist and watch and wait as Yoox always has promos! My friend Wanna is wearing this dress - I love this shade of lilac.
This coat is a real showstopper. The price is still quite high on Yoox, but again, I’d watch and wait!
This shade of red from the FW24 collection is my absolute favorite. I have the coat pictured here and this shorter style. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been stopped by compliments on the color; it’s a really happy chili red that stands out during the bleak winter months. Speaking of a happy chili red, these boots are also incredible, as is the price!
The sequins on this knit are so cool - an unexpected shape that rustles as you walk! I recently stumbled on this version, which would look great layered over a pair of trousers as well.
I love this necklace and use the cord for all kinds of other charms. It’s available in a beautiful shade of brown.
Last but not least, this embroidered linen dress that has carried me through many summers. I generally hate summer dressing but always look forward to breaking this piece out for the season!
And of course, while searching for these looks, I stumbled upon some pieces that I’m adding to my wishlist, like this lace dress at a great price, this super chic black blouse, and these tie-back blouses that remind of the new Phoebe Philo satiny blouses. For the High Sport lovers, might I tempt you with these ivory pants as an alternative?
I hope you enjoyed this little roundup!!
xx
I loved this! As some who’s soft-spoken and not so center of attention (my husband might argue otherwise), I really enjoy when someone approaches me to talk about something I’m wearing. It’s a delightful way to have conversations and friendships with like-minded people. Also, that linen Jil dress looks stunning on you and now I’m tempted!
Couldn’t agree more! I loved Luke & lucie’s approach to Jil. Excited to see where jil goes from here and where they end up.
There are so many pieces from their collections that are on my list to add to my collection
