I popped back to Los Angeles for a much-too-short 2 weeks. One of my besties got married in Ojai, and it was very fun to get a little dolled up in spite of the dizzying jetlag. Now, I’m packing to leave for another 6 weeks. I was tearing up this morning just thinking about leaving and missing my home, my cats, my silly little routines.
Strategizing how to pack while fighting back tears is not the move. I attempted to shoot a little how to pack video only to realize an hour and many tries later that… I had not been filming!!! But alas, I figured my sh*t out and have something to share.
I wrote about packing strategy in the spring, and I’m going back to what I know, which is creating a little “capsule collection” that I can mix and match to stretch each piece as far as possible.
This time, a striped Dries Van Noten pocket belt (I also love this denim version, which is also on sale) became my hero piece and the inspiration for my blue-toned stripes & florals palette.
I summoned the strength to re-film some looks that I created, most of them centered around power clashing with stripes & florals, playing with stripes-on-stripes, or building looks with this belt, which takes a look from boring to interesting with barely any effort. I also don’t really carry a bag in Shanghai, as I just need my phone, a pair of shades and lip gloss, so these oversized pockets are a perfect replacement for weighing my shoulders down.
For some reason, this video is very desaturated on Substack, but you can view the reel on my Instagram account! Pardon the wrinkles - I couldn’t bring myself to steam cotton poplin when it’s goin’ in a suitcase!

The way you style that belt 🤌🏽
Love the dress for the wedding!
